Blogging is a must for businesses because of the many benefits it offers. When you establish a regular blog, you increase credibility and build trust with your customers. You also get a unique angle to carve your niche, establish thought leadership, and engage your audience by sharing content that people who are interested in your brand will want to read. Additionally, you can repurpose blog content for social media posts, which anyone who’s worked in social media can tell you — it’s sometimes hard to find content to post (but not when you have frequent blog posts!). But perhaps the greatest reason to have a blog strategy for your business is that of the amazing boost in SEO that it can give you. Here’s why:
Strategic On-Page Keyword Implementation
Keywords are the foundation of all great SEO strategy — and in SEO blogs, you have the perfect opportunity to strategically use keywords that will help you rank. At Moose May, we start all SEO strategy by performing keyword research for a business and its top competitors to see what it is that people in your realm of interest are searching for. We analyze the research to derive 10-15 main keywords to try to rank for when we start. The beautiful thing about SEO blogs is that it’s so easy to think of blog ideas that center around those keywords. Whereas in writing titles and metas it can be more difficult to fit in keywords without stuffing due to character limits, blogs are basically free-range spaces for your many keywords to roam. A quick tip though — your SEO blog strategy should be focused on creating blogs for respective keywords, not trying to fit all of them into one blog. For more tips on SEO Blogging, see here.
Backlinking
Did you notice how we were able to include three hyperlinks to our other blogs in the post above? That’s an example of backlinking that shows your readers other valuable content on your site which does things like build trust and credibility, as well as keeps your audience engaged with your website. But SEO blogs aren’t just good places to backlink your own content — it’s also smart to start building relationships with other credible sites and organizations by backlinking to external sites. In turn, these sites may backlink to your site, which is something that search engines really like to see. As Moz calls it, a backlink is a “vote of confidence” for your site. (That was an example of a backlink to an external site, in case you missed it ;))
Satisfying Search Engine Algorithms
What’s SEO without understanding the algorithms that drive rankings? SEO blogs make the search algorithms happy because 1) search engines really love websites that generate fresh content and show updates, and 2) search engines have a “popularity contest” of sorts in which they seek out content that is clicked on and shared frequently. When you write SEO blogs, you create more pages that therefore create more opportunities for ranking, and you also create more opportunities for content to be shared.
In short, SEO blogging should be a top priority in your SEO strategy since it provides such invaluable opportunities for ranking that you just can’t achieve in the same way with other parts of your site. At Moose May, we love helping businesses create a comprehensive SEO blog strategy — and can even write the blogs for you if you need that extra help.
