A few of the building blocks of SEO, you’ll hear us refer to titles and metas frequently, both in our blogs or (if you’re a client) on calls and emails. So, let’s dig in real quick and clear any confusion about these concepts.
Both titles and metas help search engines understand the content of the page; this information tells clients and Google (or Bing or Yahoo) what the page is about with a quick header and description. Titles and meta descriptions can not only increase your rank but also increase your click-through rate.
Wondering where to find them? Titles and metas are actually HTML code in the header of a page, but don’t worry if you don’t know how to code — there are plugins for this so you don’t have to program it individually. There is not a one-size-fits-all method, though; different hosting platforms have different methods for plugging in titles and metas, or example, on WordPress, we recommend using Yoast, while on Shopify, it should be built into the theme (fields on the bottom of each page to drop them in).
This is the first step in SEO. We often advise clients to take the quick wins that provide the best results — writing great titles and metas is one of those quick wins. Need help? Contact us and we’ll get started!
