Several ecommerce companies have blogs on their site. If you don’t have a blog for your business, it’s time to consider creating one. Blogs are a crucial way to improve your SEO rankings, so your business reaches the top of the search page against your competition. Here are a few tips on why blogging is important:
- Improved keyword rankings
- Visitors spend more time engaged on your website
- Opportunities for organically including internal links
- Greater potential for backlinks
- Create a loyal audience
How Long Does an SEO Blog Post Need to Be?
Now that we’ve convinced you why you need a blog, let’s discuss the length of a blog post. If you’re looking for results, the word count of your blogs matter. At a minimum, we suggest writing 300 words. However, the more text, the better, so regularly writing blogs between 1,000 and 2,000 is beneficial.
Ranking on Google is the goal of most ecommerce businesses. When Google is combing through page results, having more text can be helpful. A blog with a higher word count gives Google more to understand your post topic. It also allows you to include your business’s keywords at a greater frequency.
To provide internet queries with sufficient answers, search engines often turn to longer posts, as it’s more likely the content will contain an answer to the searcher’s question. Pages with too few words are thin content – content with little value to an internet searcher– and Google will often not include them as a top search result.
Vary Blog Post Lengths
There are many benefits to writing longer blog posts if you aim to be the top link on a search engine results page. However, word count isn’t the only factor, and we aren’t encouraging you to write a long post just for the sake of it. Your writing should always be useful and informative- and for some topics, it is just not possible to write 2,000 words.
We can separate blog posts into a few categories with targeted lengths.
- How-to: If you’re sharing information on how to do something, it may be one of your longer posts. Don’t skimp on these; if someone lands on your site expecting to learn how to do something, make sure they leave with enough information to accomplish their goal.
- Listicles: A listicle is just as it sounds – a list of ideas. This is generally a middle of the road word count blog. The number of ideas you share will dictate length, but keep in mind that most people like options, so if you can add more ideas, do so.
- What is…: A what is post answers a question, so the blog word count can vary drastically. Simple topics may be on the short side, whereas complex questions will necessitate a longer answer. Regardless of the question, make sure your response provides an adequate answer.
Ultimately, the length of a blog post depends on the topic. Make sure to write at least 300 words, but if the subject doesn’t lend itself to 2,000 words, then don’t force it. Adding fluff content to your blog doesn’t improve Google’s understanding of your topic; therefore, it may not help its search engine ranking. Want to add a blog to your website today?
